Skip Counting by 2s, 5s and 10s Worksheets for Kids

Skip counting is one of the easiest ways to help children count faster and get ready for multiplication. In this free printable set, kids count forward by 2s, 5s and 10s, fill in missing numbers on number paths, circle numbers on a hundred chart and count groups of objects such as socks, fingers and bundles of sticks.

The pages are A4 portrait, black and white, and easy on printer ink. Print them at home or in class, use a pencil so children can erase and try again, and let kids say the numbers out loud as they write.

How to play

  1. Download the free PDF and print the pages you need on A4 paper. One page per sitting works well for younger children.
  2. Warm up by counting aloud together: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 5, 10, 15, 20. Clap or tap on each number.
  3. Let your child write the missing numbers with a pencil, then colour or circle the answers where the page asks for it.
  4. Check the work together, praise the effort and repeat a page later in the week for extra practice.

These worksheets build number sense and fluency. By counting in 2s, 5s and 10s, children start to see patterns in numbers, notice that counting by 2s gives even numbers, and spot the repeating 0 and 5 endings when counting by 5s. This pattern spotting is the first step towards multiplication tables, telling time in five-minute steps and handling money. Writing the missing numbers also gives handwriting practice and builds confidence in working independently. Short, regular sessions of ten minutes are far more effective than one long sitting, so keep the mood light and celebrate small wins.

Frequently asked questions

What age is skip counting suitable for?
Most children are ready between ages five and eight, once they can count to twenty or thirty one by one. Start with counting by 10s, then 5s, then 2s. Older children can use the same pages for quick revision.
Are these worksheets really free to print?
Yes. You can download the PDF and print as many copies as you need for your own children or your classroom. No sign-up is required. Please do not resell the pages or share them as your own work.
How does skip counting help with maths later?
Skip counting is the bridge to multiplication. A child who can count 5, 10, 15, 20 already knows the five times table in order. It also helps with reading clocks in five-minute steps and counting coins and notes.
My child keeps losing track while counting. What can I do?
Use objects and movement. Count pairs of socks, clap on every number, or jump along a number line drawn on the floor. Touching each group while saying the number keeps counting steady and makes the pattern easier to hear.
