This free memory match game for kids turns a classic card game into a bright, tap-friendly online activity. Twelve cards are placed face down, and hidden under them are six friendly animal pairs: a dog, a cat, an elephant, a frog, a fish and a butterfly. Children turn over two cards at a time and try to remember where each animal is hiding. Every correct pair stays open and adds points to the score.

The game works on a phone, tablet, laptop or classroom smart board. There is nothing to download and no sign-up, so children can start playing straight away.

How to play

  1. Tap or click any card to turn it over and see the animal hiding underneath.
  2. Now turn over a second card. If the two animals are the same, the pair stays open and you score ten points.
  3. If the animals are different, the cards flip back. Remember where they were and try another pair.
  4. Find all six pairs, then press Play again for a fresh shuffle.

Memory games do much more than pass the time. While your child hunts for pairs, they are strengthening visual memory, concentration and the ability to hold a picture in mind for a few seconds, skills that later support reading and mental maths. Matching two identical pictures also builds careful looking and early same-and-different thinking, and counting the pairs found gives gentle number practice. Because the game has no timer and no losing, children can play calmly at their own speed. Sit beside younger players and name each animal aloud to add vocabulary practice, or take turns to make it a happy family game.

Frequently asked questions

What age is this memory match game best for?
It suits children from about four to seven years. Younger players enjoy naming the animals with an adult beside them, while older children challenge themselves to finish all six pairs in the fewest moves possible.
Does the game work on a mobile phone or tablet?
Yes. The cards are large and respond to a single tap, so the game plays well on phones, tablets, laptops and classroom boards. It runs right in the browser, with nothing to install or sign up for.
Is the game free to play?
Completely free. There is no login, no payment and no personal information needed. Open the page, tap a card and start playing. You can press Play again as many times as you like for a new shuffle.
How does a matching game help my child learn?
Finding pairs trains short-term visual memory, attention and patience. Children also practise comparing two pictures to see if they are the same or different, which is an early thinking skill used in reading, sorting and maths.
